Just noticed that the pictures didn’t properly upload to gallery. I’ll fix that as soon as I’ve got the time!

Spending mania

Filed under: Banter — Padraig @ 10:05 pm

So I’ve been purchasing stuff left and right. I was just about to spend another $800 bucks on some more cool crap, but I suddenly had the sensibility to check my account balances and decided not to. Guess I’ll have to wait 2 weeks to the next paycheck. It was good stuff too. A tv tuner card for the computer. A pull down screen so I can see my projector’s images better. Two projector bulbs (one for john who would pay me back and one as a backup for me). Those mutha’s is egg-spensive. Nearly $300 a pop. Projectors are sweet, but you tend to forget about that expense. Every 4 years or so, you’re going to have to shell out another $300. And the technology by then makes it almost feasible to just get a new projector… maybe plasma screens will be affordable when my bulb fails. Oh… I was listing what I was planning to buy. The only other thing I was getting was a sidewinder joystick connector to usb converter. Video games via emulators galore. Speaking of video games, I did purchase an eVGA nVidia 7800 GT card. I think it will kick some ass. Hopefully I’m correct.

Other stuff I’ve purchased. Beaver Sports had a mad sale so I went nuts. Climbing shoes & some accessories, quality socks, xc skiis & accessories, nice clothing for xc skiing, and some xc stuff for Casey… all said I blew nearly 600 bucks! The bindings have yet to be mounted on the skiis, but I can’t wait to go try out my new gear! I slept in my fleece long johns last night. Wow, warm & cozy. Usually I’m snuggled up tight with my woman, but this qualifies as a distant second place. ;)

I’ll be picking Isaac up from Anchorage next weekend. He called me up today and was loaded on sugar. When you’re 5 years old I think sugar and crack are about the same. That kid was going nuts. The high was still going strong when we hung up a half hour later. Wow. But good golly gee willickers, it sure is nice to hear from him. On a more serious note Melodi & I haven’t solidified the amount of time he’ll be with me this time, but it will be at least 4 months. That takes us to summer. Once he goes back to Melodi, she’s got the 70% physical custody by our agreement, so I’ll start doing things like school or becoming the president of Rotaract. We’ll see which when the Rotaract election happens here in the near future.

Just loaded the photos off my canon. Look at the gallery link I’ve got goin’ on off to the right.

Post mania

Wow, three days in a row after a long long silence. I’m on FIRE! … I need a little flame icon to insert right there.

Anyhoo, I just came out of Beaver Sports with $300 of gear all 20% off or more. Nice deal. Got a pretty nice set of XC skiing gear. Rosignol skiis, Fischer boots, solomon bindings, swix poles. When I finally get it all on tuesday or wednesday I should take a photo of it, to show off :) Also got climbing shoes and four pairs of nice smartwool type socks. Now I need to go back, get skiis for Casey and pick up some XC clothes (pants, gators, maybe a jacket). Lots of money, but I’m excited about the gear!

Huh… thought I had more to blather about, but I guess not.

Is it bad that I find this little computer puzzle clip so amusing?

Where are all my online buddies?

Filed under: Banter — Padraig @ 6:18 pm

What happened to everyone on yahoo? So few of the people I would always chat with are on regularly any more. Except Casey, and I get to talk with her in person every day. Mom? Alex? Jim? Mystann? Ah well. I guess I’ll just have to blather on my webpage.

Fairbanks recently experienced it’s typical week plus of 40 to 50 below. I ran out of heating oil about 5 days into it. Fortunately I’m like a boyscout and am always prepared ;) I had 10 gallons of extra fuel in yellow diesel cans ready to go right into my fuel tank. Now I’m waiting for the perfect moment to fix my tank stand (now that the tank is empty thus lighter). You see the rear port post bowed out due to the weight of the tank and the lack of latteral support in the stand. As an interrim fix I’ve propped a couple pieces of fire wood between the house and the stand and attached a 2×4 to brace the two back posts of the stand.

The other day, John and I went to fix the stand and found out that it’s even more hosed than originally thought. We’ll have to take the tank entirely off, install an interrim tank (John’s old 55 gallon drum), and rework my current stand with tougher connections (3/8″ bolts instead of piddly screws). Now that its scorchin’ out there (over freezing often) and I’m back from staffing the Yukon Quest Circle City checkpoint, I ought to do it to it. I’ll keep you posted.
