Old forgotten post that never got posted

Currently incomplete…

Went to this Rotaract dinner type thing at Anna’s parents’ place. It was good. Chicken & salmon and other tasty foods. Many a dog/puppy and the human company was nice as well. When I was ready to leave I noticed a pen poking me from in my pocket. I was lazy and thought I’ll just put up with it, then I thought if I get in a crash this thing might poke into my soft under belly and cause me great injury, so I moved it to one of the coveys in my faring. Turned out that was a wise choice.

Matthew found this slick backroad with loads of twisties. Nice tight turns that you can really push yourself on… with frost heaves & everything. So on the way home I took a 25 mile an hour turn at something like 50. Matt’s bike really has no problem accomplishing such feats, but my bike is for touring. You know sitting back and taking in the country side as you cruise down the alaskan highway. Anyhow I realized I bit off a bit more than I could chew, so instead of trying to grate my left cylinder on the pavement, I righted the bike grabbed a handful of brake and went straight off the road letting loose on the brake as I left the road. Apparently I didn’t let loose enough though because I think I flipped the bike. I remember thinking as my head bonked the ground a number of times, “Don’t let the bike land on me” and “Thank goodness for helmets”. When the bike came to a stop on its side, I was able to get off because of the boxer style engine (bike was resting on the cylinder gaurd instead of my leg). Looked at the bike on its side and realized I ought to pick it up since gas was leaking out the carburators… thats okay, that always happens when the bike is laying on its side. Then I got on the bike and pondered starting it. Decided not to since I’d bonked my head a number of times… perhaps a person that hadn’t just been in a crash would have better judgement than I. Then I waited for Matthew to realize that I wasn’t behind him any more. Only took about a minute. He was a little freaked out when he came around the corner and I was sitting on my bike off the road pointing the wrong direction. I guess he really didn’t know what to think. ‘Round about that time a feller on a little enduro bike came toolin’ around the corner and stopped to help out. Apparently he had been in a truck coming the other direction when Matt & I were on our way to Anna’s. We were both cruisin through the twisties.

So there are a couple things I really oughtta talk about.

One, Holy Cow, Chris Wyatt posted a comment. You never know who is reading your stuff! Good to hear from you Chris!

Two, Got in a motorcycle wreck. I’m okay, walked away virtually unscathed. I’ll do an in depth post about it someday. That was two weeks ago.

Three, motorcylce trip to Haines over the Fourth. Got stuck there cause I noticed my tire was worn down to the wire. This also will get a dedicated post.

Oh yeah, KUAC (fairbanks NPR) played a couple of blues shows this evening. KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF. These blues hit the nail smack on the head. It was the kind of music that you turn up so loud it hurts your ears, and you still want to turn it up cause its so damn good.
